IN tough economic times, free events are becoming less common but the 8th annual Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival is back bigger and better than ever from tonight ((28/5/09)) until Sunday and it's still free.

Broadbeach Alliance spokeswoman Tammie Readings said the fact the event was free gave people a unique opportunity in the current climate.

"The Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival will have five outdoor stages this year with more than 45 acts made up of over 200 performers so we are still delivering quantity and quality and you don't even need a ticket."

The 2009 Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival begins tonight and continues until May 31. It will feature the stars of the Australian blues scene as well as some popular additions to the line-up.

"James Southwell will be performing with 2005 Australian Idol winner Kate DeAraugo in Surf Parade on the Friday night, we also have Phil Emmanuel, Joe Robinson (winner of Australia's Got Talent 2008) and some really incredible musicians who are not only amazing but have also played with some of the best in the world," Miss Readings said.

The Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival has grown to be a pinnacle event on the Gold Coast and Broadbeach Alliance work extremely closely with Gold Coast Tourism to ensure that it reaches its maximum potential.

The Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival is known for including several local acts each year and this year will be no different with performances from Gold Coasters Men in Blues, George Ferguson, Blind Lemon, Wiley Reed, Mason Rack and Phil Emmanuel, Brisbane artists 8 Ball Aitken, Blonde on Blue, Mojo Webb, Barrel House and Sunshine Coast acts Harii Bandhu and Doc Span.

This year will see stages in Kurrawa Park, Victoria Park, Broadbeach Mall and two in Surf Parade.

The annual Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival has attracted over 250,000 people since it began in 2002 making this a world class event.
