STEVE PARISH TO SPEAK AT COAST GALA FUNDRAISER
ICONIC Australian nature photographer, environmentalist and publisher Steve Parish will guest speak at a gala Gold Coast fundraising dinner at the Southport Sharks AFL Club next Friday (March 11, 2011).
The appearance of the 50-year industry veteran and Medal of the Order of Australia recipient will support the Coast's Youth, Health and Education Service YHES House and local homeless and disadvantaged youth.
According to YHES House Manager Anne Ellis the night is set to be a very special occasion.
"Steve Parish has been photographing Australia's social and natural history for half a century and we're thrilled to have him along," said Ms Ellis.
"In 2010 he received a Special Lifetime Commendation from the Whitley Award Committee of the Royal Zoological Society of New South Wales for his services to the promotion and conservation of Australasian fauna through publishing, adding to a long list of awards and achievements over five decades.
"His insights into his craft and Australia's environmental challenges next Friday will be extremely interesting," she said.
Event Coordinator Rehana Adcock said the night's musical entertainment will be provided by Gold Coast musician Alel Winter a DJ and there will be a massive auction with some unique offerings.
"One item is Spendlove Café award-winning chef Luke Turner cooking dinner at the highest bidder's house, which should encourage some spirited bidding.
"There is also a Helen Holmes-commissioned artwork, a Draculas evening, goods from local cinemas, health clubs, hotels, butchers, supermarkets and wineries and the Gold Coast Blaze and Gold Coast Football Club," Ms Adcock said.
Bookings are now being taken at $75 a head and corporate tables of ten are available.
