ATHOC 20TH Annual National Awards A Huge Success

By Laura Younger

The 20th Annual ATHOC National Awards night was held at Gold Coast Arts Centre on Friday, 22nd July, 2011.

With over 270 people in the room, the energy was high and the applause for the winners loud. With 16 awards up for grabs you could feel the anticipation, competition and friendly rivalry between the companies as it spread across the room.

A special congratulation goes to Joe Hickman of Interval International who took home the Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Timeshare Industry. Joe's immense contribution to the industry spans more than 2 decades and has contributed to the growth and success of the timeshare industry in Australia and New Zealand.

The awards were well spread across the industry to the delight of many CEO's, but a special mention should go to the Maintenance Team at the independent Mariner Shores Resort for giving the larger companies a run for their money. Well done!

The 2011 Resort Managers of the year was taken out by and very well deserved by Warren and Julie Lee from Cedar Lakes Resort, a Classic Holiday managed property.

The industry innovation award certainly took a green leaning with the judge unable to make a decision and two awards being presented – Both Green initiatives!

Congratulation goes to Pacific Palms Resort (Classic Holidays Managed Property) Activities Program with their new Junior Discover Tours and also to Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific - Wyndham's Wynnie the Wallaby program which promotes and encourages recycling and reusing, innovation, energy conservation and weather conservation amongst Owners, guest and staff.

Wyndham Vacation Resorts saw a clean sweep in the Sales Category winning Sales Performer, Sales Team and Sales Manager of the Year.

Charisse Cox MD RCI Asia Pacific was thrilled to see the team pick up awards in both marketing and the Corporate Manager – it was a double whammy to have President of RCI Gordon Gurnick and other international visitors in town to enjoy and celebrate the night with.

Accor's CEO Craig Wood took the team to celebrate further after winning awards in in the Resort, Marketing, Corporate and Whole of Industry Categories.

The support from our local and state politicians shows the respect that the industry in Australia has at a pivotal time of growth.

Special Guests included John Paul Langbroek - State Member for Surfers Paradise, Jann Stuckey - State Member for Currumbin, Alexander Douglas, State Member for Gaven, Cr Susie Douglas - Surfers Paradise, Daniel Gschwind - CEO Queensland Tourism and Industry Council.

The awards demonstrated the continued dedication and commitment of industry employees to their companies and the timeshare industry overall.

Congratulations to everyone who was nominated by their companies. In their eyes, you are their star performers – Well done.
