Queensland dominates Harcourts National Awards

Story and photos by Aldwyn Altuney

Before an excited crowd of about 500 delegates, Harcourts Coorparoo owner Jim Ryan was awarded Harcourts Australia's Top Residential Sales Consultant for 2007-2008 while Harcourts Rockhampton was named the Top Office in Australia.

Mr Ryan triumphed among more than 1000 other sales consultants from Harcourts in Queensland, Western Australia, NSW, Victoria and Tasmania and Brock Harcourts in South Australia for the prestigious title.

The announcement has come after Mr Ryan was announced as the Top Sales Consultant in Queensland for 2007-2008 at the Queensland Annual Awards dinner at the Hilton Hotel in Brisbane on May 10, where he beat over 500 Queensland sales consultants.

Mr Ryan's real estate career started in the 1980s and he has consistently achieving awards at the quarterly and annual awards functions each year, including Number 2 Residential Sales Consultant last year for the second year in a row.

Harcourts Queensland CEO Aaron Brooks said Jim was a warm, approachable and genuine person, who cared about the interest of his clients and was passionate about his work.

"His award reflects the exceptional service his clients in Brisbane's south-east have been receiving for decades now and the referrals that have come as a result," Mr Brooks said.

Harcourts Rockhampton was victorious in the Top Office stakes among more than 240 other offices in Queensland, Victoria, NSW, Western Australia, Tasmania and Brock Harcourts offices in South Australia.

Their announcement also came after it won Top Office in Queensland for 2007-2008 at the Queensland Annual Awards Dinner, beating more than 100 offices throughout the state.

One of the most consistently successful Harcourts offices, Harcourts Rockhampton has been open for nine years and was one of the first Harcourts offices to open in Australia, after the organisation was launched in Queensland in 1997.

Harcourts Rockhampton business owners Stan and Julie Cooke have both been involved in and passionate about the Rockhampton real estate industry since 1980, while their sales team consist of some of Queensland's stand-out performers, consistently ranked within the Top 20 Sales Consultants in the state.

Mr Brooks said the growth of the Rockhampton business had been extraordinary.

"I put it down to two things," he said.

"Firstly, the sheer will and determination of the directors of the office. They have diligently executed a very solid business and empowered their people to achieve a great result.

"Secondly, the culture and the environment of that office are extraordinary.  The people care about each other and achieving their goals. They are well qualified, well developed and motivated by their business owners."

The awards were a fitting finale for an informative and inspiring conference, which was launched by Aria Award-winning singer Anthony Callea backed by the popular Northern River Symphony Orchestra and with a surprise musical contribution by Harcourts International Ltd Managing Director Mike Green.

Mr Green came out of the orchestra at the launch to give an inspiring presentation to the 650 delegates at the conference.

He said the main focuses of this year's conference were on growth of the organisation, embracing the latest global technology and reaching goals as a team.

He firstly reflected on a historic record-breaking year, with the group on an international scale reaching a record $19 billion for the year and 468 offices in seven countries; having established offices in Zambia, Singapore and China over the last year.

"Growth creates success for our people and for our clients. The stronger our profile, the higher our recognition and credibility, the more opportunities are presented. I whole-heartedly believe the growth we have achieved this past year reflects the quality of our systems, our organisation, our culture and most importantly, our people," Mr Green said.

In terms of technology, Mr Green said a large focus was on redesigning the group's online presence, reflecting global technological development and change, including an announcement that Harcourts' clients would now be provided with automatic exposure across all Google search websites via Google Base, a first for any real estate group in Australasia.

Mr Green said moving forward in a changing market, the group as "one team with one focus" would work together to provide exceptional service every time to Harcourts International's clients globally.

"The stronger we are as team, the greater the resources we can provide to our people, including training, technology and marketing, and the better equipped we are as individuals to provide our clients with the highest level of service," Mr Green said.
