Judges impressed by quality of entries

Story & photos by Aldwyn Altuney

THE Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards (GCBEA) July and August 2008 winners have been announced and judges continue to be impressed by the quality and number of entries so far this year.

GCBEA president Ian Cousins praised the calibre and diversity of the July and August winners.

"Each and every one of them is doing exceptional things on the local, interstate and international stages," Mr Cousins said.

"It's something the whole of the Gold Coast should be proud of, exposing these success stories is why we're here."

The July winners were announced at Griffith University in Southport on July 23.

The winners, which are now in the running for the supreme award, are Roam Interactive (Emerging Business), Gold Coast City Marina (Family Business), CNE Constructions (Manufacturing & Construction), Sea Pen (Mayor's Innovation GC), Gaby Cool Transport (Retail Wholesale & Distribution), Our Spirit (Tourism Hospitality & Recreation), SSKB Body Corporate Management (Trades Professions & Services), Allotz.com Limited (Information Technology & Multimedia) and Neweys Drive Thru Dry Cleaners (Environmental Management).

The August winners were announced at the intimate KPMG boardroom in the Corporate Centre in Bundall on August 27.

The winners are Health Protect International (Emerging Business), Holliday Group of Companies (Family Business), Durahub Bearing Protectors (Manufacturing & Construction), Renegade Motors International (Mayor's Innovation GC), Tamborine Mountain Distillery (Retail Wholesale & Distribution), Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre (Tourism Hospitality & Recreation), Business News Publications (Trades Professions & Services), MaxSoft (Information Technology & Multimedia) and EcoVision Solutions (Environmental Management).

The drinks flowed as GCBEA committee president Ian Cousins announced the winners of all nine categories and continued to encourage the support of the new Mayor's corporate social responsibility award.

"We will be looking at the everyday practices of businesses in assisting not-for-profit local community organisations, particularly their mentoring assistance and provision of staff time," Mr Cousins said.

The first winner of this award will be announced at the GCBEA gala event at Conrad Jupiters on November 22, 2008. The winning business will receive $5000 to be passed on to their community partner.

Every month from May to October, the awards acknowledge winners in each of the nine categories. Entries close on the first day of each month for the following month's awards.
