After seeing the Earthlings DVD, AA Xposé Media Director/ Photojournalist Aldwyn Altuney has been inspired to take action for our animal friends.

She is hosting the world's first Animal Action Day (AA Day!) on August 26, 2007, at Owen Park in Southport from 10-4pm as a free fun, family day of awareness, appreciation and respect of all animals.

All proceeds from raffles and stall donations will go to the Animal Welfare League on the Gold Coast.

The world's first Animal Action Day will include stage entertainment by bands Don't Panic (playing rock covers), Loose Enz (doing an Eagles and John Denver tribute) and singers including the world's best Elvis tribute artist Dean Vegas, Tamborine Mountain opera/ celtic singer Kathleen Procter-Moore, Brisbane tenor Roger Davy (as Pavarotti), Gold Coast singer Raymond Symes (doing Neil Diamond) and Gold Coast country singer Allison Forner, stalls, Puppia Best Dressed Owner/ Pet Look-alike Competition and activities like a jumping castle by The Phun Team, animal face painting by Smiley the Clown etc.

The idea is to encourage responsible pet ownership and take positive steps towards protecting animals across the planet - by signing petitions against whaling etc.

Cr Dawn Crichlow will launch it and author Lynn Santer will do a reading & giveaways from her Magical Scarecrows book. There will be over $3000 in raffle prizes, among plenty of other entertainment.

Feel free to bring your pets - they just won't be allowed in the clubhouse but the stalls will spill out on to the carpark and balcony overlooking Owen Park anyway - so your pets will still enjoy all the activity. And we'd love to have them there!

Right now, thousands of animals are being euthanased annually and many cases of animal cruelty are still happening. The Animal Action Day plans to put an end to this through education and awareness of the plight of animals.

The exciting event is the start of what is hoped will lead to annual Animal Action Days across the planet.

The event will be held in the Southport Tigers Junior Rugby League Football Club at 201 Queen Street, Southport.
