Gold Coast magician creates movie magic

With $10,000 in credit card debt, Gold Coast magician Troy Star jumped on a plane with an ex-news cameraman and busked his way around the globe.

Troy returned home 13 months later with over 125 hours of footage, then spent a further 12 months in post production. The film to date has cost a little over $100,000.

The film has been entirely self-funded for reasons Troy explains,"self-funding the project gave me the freedom to really break some new ground and capture the action in a natural and unfiltered way."

The result is one massive magical road trip about people and places and how the experience ultimately transformed Troy's life. The film follows Troy on his quest for magic, money, women and a taste of the big time.

The film also documents Troy's meeting up with some big name celebrities along the way including Cuba Gooding Jr., Ja Rule and Shaquille O'Neil. Troy said a lot of the motivation behind making the film was desperation.

"Three years ago, I hit rock bottom after a bad relationship, I was burnt out and broke. So I had myself an entrepreneurial seizure and decided to put everything on the line. The film was the result," he said.

Troy is now planning a number of exciting initiatives to self distribute the film, including hitting the road in a world's first interactive tour which is set to go to several countries over a 12 month period.

The tour will start on the Gold Coast and travel nationally for 3 months before expanding overseas. The tour will consist of live performances, big screen events and exclusive VIP magic after parties.

What makes the tour special is the interactive component; all the action will be shot as the tour unfolds and posted on YouTube as a free, regular web show. Internet audiences will be able to interact via the web in a multitude of ways.

Anyone, anywhere in the world can book the tour for $25,000 and sponsor an event, which is designed to place their company, products and services at the centre of the tour.

The tour will kick off with a world premiere and a short theatrical release at Birch Carroll and Coyle Pacific Fair cinemas at 6pm on October 3, 2008.

"I'm excited about the launch here on the Coast because of all the local support, after working 10 years in the restaurants at Broadbeach and Surfers every night I have personally performed for close to 250,000 people."

TROY STAR: Fake It Till You Make It will be screening at Birch Carroll and Coyle Pacific Fair cinemas from October 4-9 at BCC Pacific Fair at 7pm.

A short theatrical release of the film will be followed by a worldwide DVD launch.

Tickets for the premiere and the screening are available from www.oztix.com.au and Sunflower Music at Pac Fair. The film will also be available through retail outlets, video stores and from www.troystarmovie.com  To book Troy for your next event, call him on 0402 417 586.
